How to get your dental practice recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity

A patient who has just moved, or who needs an implant specialist, increasingly asks an AI assistant. It gives four or five practices. In our measurements, dentists are the trade where those lists differ the most from one assistant to another. Here is why, and how to appear in them.

What our measurements show

On 2 October 2026 we asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for the best dentist in 10 cities. 125 practices named, none by all three assistants. Almost 9 in 10 appeared in only one of them, and in 5 cities out of 10 the three lists shared no name at all (full study).

This is the most scattered result of all the trades we measured. A city has many comparable practices, and no public ranking separates them. So each assistant forms its own view from what it finds.

Where AI gets its information about dentists

In one of our dentist rankings (29 September 2026), the most cited sources were:

  • the practices' and clinics' own websites: that is where AI reads the specialities, the team and the equipment;
  • medical appointment booking platforms;
  • local blogs and guides that list practitioners.

In its answers, AI repeats almost word for word what the practice writes: “implantology”, “care for anxious patients”, “3D planning”, “treatment in English”.

The 5 actions, in order

1. Measure on all three assistants

Because they do not name the same practices, a result on one says nothing about the others. Start with the free check, then look at who is named instead of you and thanks to which sources.

2. Describe exactly what you do

One page per important treatment: implants, orthodontics, emergency care, whitening, children's dentistry. With the town in the title and the first paragraph. “Dental practice in Leeds” is not enough: AI answers precise questions (“children's dentist in Leeds”, “emergency dentist on a Saturday”).

3. Say who you treat and how

Languages spoken, extended hours, wheelchair access, care for anxious patients, whether you take new patients, same-day emergencies. These are exactly the details AI picks up to justify a name.

4. A complete profile on booking platforms

If you use an appointment booking platform, fill in everything: specialities, languages, photos, indicative fees where allowed. Same name, same address and same phone number as on your website and your Google Business Profile.

5. Structured data and a readable website

Add your practice's structured data block (type Dentist) with the generator, and check that your pages can be read without JavaScript with Your site as AI sees it.

Common mistakes

  • A website that does not name the practitioners. AI is more willing to name a practice when it can say who works there and since when.
  • A list of treatments with no text: ten words in a menu give nothing to quote.
  • Reviews left unanswered: a short, courteous reply, including to a negative review, is visible on your profile to everyone, AI included.

In every case, follow the advertising rules of your professional body: describing your treatments and opening hours is information, not promotion.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't AI assistants recommend the same dentists?

In our measurement of 2 October 2026 across 10 cities, none of the 125 practices named was named by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity at once. No public ranking separates a city's practices, so each assistant relies on the websites and platforms it finds.

What does AI repeat about a dental practice?

In the answers we collected: specialities (implantology, cosmetic dentistry), care for anxious patients, equipment, languages spoken and reputation among patients. These are things written on the practices' own websites.

Do appointment booking platforms matter?

Yes. In one of our dentist rankings (29 September 2026), a medical appointment booking platform was among the sources AI cited most, alongside the practices' own websites.

Does AI recommend you?

The free check asks AI assistants your customers' questions (“best {trade} in {city}”) and shows your position, or who is named instead of you.
